Spring Cleaning Tips

Walls and above floor cleaning

The Deluxe Handheld Vac is ideal for vacuuming up dust, cobwebs and loose dirt from above-the-floor areas and hard-to-reach places using its range of handy tools. Use the dusting brush for vacuuming dust from light fittings and picture frames. For bookshelves, under the sofa, behind the fridge and radiators and other inaccessible areas the Extendable Crevice Tool provides an ideal additional attachment.

Surfaces

Wood Furniture - polish using a Micro Fibre cloth to help repel dust and electrostatic build up.

Marble surfaces - clean with Marble Restorer to remove glass rings, hard water spots and light surface scratches.

Food handling surfaces - dilute Grunge Attack Tile and Grout Cleaner and use according to the directions on the label. Grunge Attack is also great for cleaning soap scum, mould and mildew from any bathroom or sink areas.

For glass use a glass cleaning Micro Fibre Cloth to help remove all dirt and smudges without smears.

Upholstery and Carpets

Pet Areas - for smaller areas of upholstery or carpet simply vacuum using the Deluxe Handheld Vac. For larger areas use your Oreck upright to remove all pet hairs and deeply embedded dirt before further cleaning. NB: Be careful when vacuuming tassel rugs, the suction can pull at delicate fringes.

To remove light stains from carpets and upholstery lightly spray with Oreck Premist and blot to lift the stain out.

To remove deeply embedded stains and sources of odour, dry-clean your carpets and upholstery with the Dry Carpet Cleaning System. This can be used on small areas for spot cleaning or large areas for a thorough intensive clean.

NB: Always test in an inconspicuous area first.

Hardwood, Lino, Tile and Marble floors

Use an Oreck upright to remove all dust, loose dirt and hair from all floor surfaces before cleaning. There is no need for adjustment as all Oreck uprights can cope with any floor surface.

For wood and lino floors clean using Timberworks Wood, Lino and Floor Cleaner. This will remove scuffs, heal marks and sticky spots.

To remove dirt and stubborn stains from tile floors clean using Grunge Attack.

Marble Restorer is ideal for bringing natural lustre and shine back to Marble floors inside and out.

For indoor and outdoor stone surfaces try Stone Penetrating Sealer. This will protect the surface of the stone from stains caused by mould, liquid and dirt by providing the stone with a durable repellent base that allows it to breathe naturally and release moisture.

Electronic Equipment

To completely remove dust from electronic equipment use the Deluxe Handheld Vac its various attachments are all designed to vacuum up dust safely and gently.

When cleaning TV screens and monitors always check the cleaning guidelines first as different types of screens require different cleaning solutions. For a gentle clean and to remove dust and electrostatic build up use our Micro Fibre Cloths.

NB: Always check the manufacturer's guidelines before applying any cleaning solution to electrical equipment. Ensure the equipment is turned off before dusting.

Removing Allergens and Bacteria

Regular vacuuming will help to reduce the amount of allergens, bacteria, pet dander and dust mites in your home. The XL10 and the Deluxe Handheld are HEPA rated which means they are specially designed to remove all of the above and trap it inside the bag making them ideal for pet owners and allergy sufferers. The added advantage of having a bag system compared to bagless is that all the dirt, dander dust mites and allergens remain trapped in the bag to be cleanly disposed of, unlike a bagless system whereby dirt can escape back into the room, re-contaminating your home and undoing all your hard work!

Using an air purifier is another effective way to remove dust, allergens, viruses and bacteria from your home. The Oreck®air 600 filters the air in a room using a six-stage filtration process before redistributing clean, fresh air.

Vacuuming with a machine with a high filtration level (99.99% or more) and/or using an air purifier in a room will also help to reduce the amount of dusting required.

Other products that help to keep your home free from allergens are the Dry Carpet Cleaning System. Dry cleaning your carpets with this product helps to lift out deep-down allergens and dust mites from the carpet fibres which can then be vacuumed up.

Removing Odours

Odours from sinks and drains can be removed by using Enzyme Odour Eater, that virtually eliminates odours by eating the bacteria that causes them.

Stale carpet odour can be eradicated by using Natural Crystal Carpet and Room Refresher. Simply sprinkle on the carpet leave and then vacuum. When cleaning your carpets, Carpet Cleaning System is a very effective product at removing the sources of odour.

For freshening a room, simply spray Welcome Home Air Fresheners, available in three pleasant fragrances, Mulberry, Jasmine and Vanilla.
